Well lets just say I got Acute Lymphotic Leukemia when I was 3 years old! Well when I was 4 some people from this camp came and talked to me and my family! Well I found out that everyone at this camp was just like me and had the same or different problems than me and that made me very happy! When I was not at camp I was sad because I thought people were looking at me like I was weird and different just because I had no hair or because I had a problem well when I was at camp I had fun and got to enjoy swimming and arts and crafts and boating and alot of different stuff that made me have fun without worrying about my situation! Well in 1994 I got rid of my cancer and it was the happiest day of my life even though it was an amazing experience and I wouldnt of known about camp sam and all the great people if I hadnt of had it! Well now I am 19 and have gone there for 15 years and when you are 18 you cant go to the camps after that you have to go this weekend long really fun young adult retreat and you can become a counsler for the little kids and I am so excited because I will get to help kids that are just like me when I was 3 or so years old and when I am older I can be a teen kids counsler and help those kids experience something great! I hope to become a board member and maybe a head administrator of Camp Smile A Mile some day even if it is the junior board I want to get more involved with kids like me! Also I am in Phi Mu Sorority at JSU and our philantrophy deals with childerens miracle network and I was apart of it when I had cancer and now I get to help other kids that are in it! I cant wait to meet all you wonderful people on here and I hope you encourage any friends you know that have cancer to go to camp cause it is great I may have had alot of friends pass away from cancer and they loved camp all the years they lived so just be there for your friends and help them get involved with something cause I know I would of been miserable if I hadnt!
